Fujikura Specialty Fiber Instruments

Beyond Fujikura’s Standard Telecom Splicers and Cleavers

Fujikura offers an entire range of specialty instruments for handling optical fibers from 60 to 1200 microns. The lineup includes splicers, laser splicers, strippers, cleavers, recoaters, and much more.

At BBT fiberoptic, we stock a wide selection of Fujikura’s specialty instruments as demo units, and we also offer full servicing of all instruments through our in-house service department.

Below is a brief overview of some of the key product categories:

Fujikura Specialty Fusion Splicers – FSM‑100 Series and LZM Series

The FSM‑100 series includes four models (FSM‑100M, FSM‑100P, FSM‑100M+, and FSM‑100P+), developed to meet the demands of laboratories, production environments, and R&D. The series supports splicing of fiber diameters from 60 µm up to 1200 µm, including specialty types such as PM fiber, LDF (Large Diameter Fiber), photonic crystal fiber, and multicore fiber.
These splicers are also available in the more advanced LZM series, which uses a CO₂ laser as the splicing source.

Features:

  • Split V-groove system: One universal holder for many coating sizes – no need to change V-grooves or clamps.

  • Plasma Zone: Includes motorized electrode adjustment and oscillating arc – ideal for varying fiber geometries and LDF fibers.

  • Sweep Arc function: Extended, precise arc lengths (±18 mm), for tapering or glass processing.

  • Dual Estimation System (CSI/WSI): Accurate loss and splice quality estimation using both cold and warm splice images.

  • Interrelation Profile Alignment 2 (IPA2): Rotational, structural, and core alignment – ideal for PM and multicore fibers.

  • End-view observation: “+” models include visual calibration of various fiber types using a built-in “periscope” for advanced end-face analysis prior to splicing.

Applications:

These splicers are ideal for use in fiber lasers, sensing applications, medical/biological research, oil & gas, aerospace, and defense.

Recoaters – FSR‑115/116/117 Series

Fujikura’s new generation of recoaters includes three models. The FSR‑115 is delivered without a proof tester, while the FSR‑116 and FSR‑117 come with 2 kg and 10 kg tensile testing capabilities, respectively.
Using a UV-curing system, the new mold types enable faster recoating and higher density than previous models.

Features:

  • UV resin injection and improved mold design → 25% faster recoating and higher precision

  • Wide range of mold options available

Large Diameter Fiber Cleavers – CT‑115, CT‑114, CT‑116 Series

Proper fiber preparation is critical for splicing – and Fujikura offers advanced cleavers tailored to LDF fibers:

  • CT‑114: Cleaves 80–1250 µm cladding, with adjustable angle cleaving up to 15°

  • CT‑115: Cleaves 80–600 µm cladding, with programmable cleave force/settings

  • CT‑116: Cleaves 80–1250 µm cladding, also with programmable cleave force/settings

Standard Fiber Diameter Cleavers – CT‑110 and CT‑111

Fujikura also offers a newer range of battery-powered cleavers for 80–250 µm fiber diameters. These feature built-in RFID and support programmable cleave settings via dedicated fiber holders.

Other Specialty Instruments

  • SS110: New RFID-enabled stripper for standard fibers (80–250 µm)

  • PCS‑100: Automatic stripper for polyimide and other hard-to-remove coatings

  • APM-100: Automated preparation machine for stripping, cleaning, and cleaving all 125 µm standard coated fibers

  • USC‑03: Ultrasonic cleaner for gentle end-face preparation before splicing

BBT Fiberoptic is certified to service all of Fujikura’s specialty instruments. We have a wide selection of demo units available, and we also use several of these tools in our own production, giving us in-depth hands-on experience.

In upcoming newsletters, we’ll take a closer look at individual Fujikura instruments. If you’d like to know more now, don’t hesitate to contact us via phone +45 45 41 20 40 or mail info@bbtfiberoptic.dk
